How I Came To Run For School Board

I am a life long Eastmont kid and am married to an Eastmont kid. Our families have been in the valley for generations. We are proud of the growth and heritage here and chose to build our lives in this incredible community. I have three kids ages 3, 11, and 13. The youngest is not yet in school, but the older two attend Clovis Point Intermediate School and next year the oldest will be moving to the Junior High School. These are my top three reasons to make sure that the Eastmont Schools are the best possible.

Helping those around me be the best they possibly can has been a theme in my life for a long time. From taking it on myself to write a guidebook and make Spanish translation cards for other instructors in my first job as a lifeguard and swim instructor to my current position mentoring and guiding students and teachers as Academy Lead at Seeds Learning Center and Academy – helping others is an important part of who I am.

After high school I trained as a Montessori Guide and taught preschool in the valley for over a decade. In 2014, I took a chance to diversify myself and move into a new industry, senior care. I had the great opportunity to use my gift for organization to help keep a large senior living community in compliance with state regulation, manage multiple departments of staff and budgets. By taking each chance to learn from the mentors around me, I was able to build my skills to the point that I was offered a position as an Administrator. I was proud to help lead another senior living community back into compliance with state regulations and budgets.

Though I loved what I was able to do, when asked to return to Seeds to lead the Academy it was a chance I could not pass up. So, I returned to Seeds where I have had the privilege of seeing the delight on students’ faces as they learn, grow, and understand something new every day!

Now in addition to my work at Seeds, I am a liaison to the Seeds PTO and the President of the Clovis Point Intermediate School PTO. One Sunday evening I was going over the events and things going on the next week with my family. I was naming off the games and activities the kids had, what night we were having dinner with Granny and Grandpa that week and so on. I had a PTO meeting that week and the Eastmont School Board was meeting at Clovis Point, so I wanted to attend that as well. After mentioning this my son looked at me, at bit like I had lost my mind and said, “Mom, aren’t you on school board?” I explained the difference between PTO and School Board, but I couldn’t drop the idea. I looked it up, my district position was open this year. Only one problem, filing week had already begun. I had just days to decide what to do. I kept coming back to what I tell my kids and students all the time. “You can be part of the problem or part of the solution”. Anytime you choose to do nothing you are part of the problem, make a choice to be the solution.

So, here I am. I am running to offer fresh ideas and solutions to the many challenges that face our children and our district. I would appreciate you support and your vote in November.
